Sleep Don’t Come Easy

Sleep don’t come easy tonight.

I said sleep don’t come easy tonight.

When good men with black skin get gunned down a runnin’ and bad men get standing ovations.

I said sleep don’t come easy tonight.

When babies get brutalised and Daddy’s they tell lies; when lullabies they turn to cries.

I said sleep don’t come easy tonight.

When politics is predatory and people are secondary.

I said sleep don’t come easy tonight.

When victims get traumatised and predators get eulogised.

I said sleep don’t come easy tonight.

When trolls eat the children but trolls are really men.

I said sleep doing come easy tonight.

When the newsfeed is a horror show and you’re bound up and butchered slow.

I said sleep don’t come easy tonight.

When old folks are refuse and the truth is obtuse.

I said sleep don’t come easy tonight.

That’s what I said.

I said sleep won’t come easy tonight.
